Rethink Your Shrink!

Over at Shrinking Jeans there is a big challenge going on!! We are all rethinking our shrink! and Thea has actually given us all homework!

Homework?!?! Can you believe it!?!?

So Thea’s Thursday Three is about setting goals! I actually set a couple of goals yesterday and they are big ones (sort of) and Thea says our goals can be small! I have some little things I am going to use as my goals – because I am always forgetting them!!

My Thursday Three:

1. Water, water, and more water!! I am so bad about drinking all the water I should! I will drink a minimum of 80 oz daily. There are so many benefits to drinking water and I will drink more!

2. Vitamins and Supplement! again, I know all about the benefits to taking a daily vitamin and I know my knees are especially thankful when I take glucosamine condroiton (sp?) regularly but I am not all that good about taking them every day! I will take my vitamins/supplements every day.

3. WORK OUT IS ME TIME!! I will give myself 40-60 minutes 6 days every week! I deserve it and I know work outs will make me a happier and better mom & wife!

Every Saturday I will post a recap, along with my Saturday Scale time post, of my goals for this challenge.

When I successfully hit all three of these goals I am going to buy myself a new thumb ring! I have been wanting one!

new year, new decade, new goals [updated]

  • Posted on December 30, 2009 at 11:13 pm

I have been thinking about goals! I guess everyone is doing the same thing with the new year about to start! I am not setting resolutions but I am setting goals!Goals are important and I have never been all that good at setting or keeping goals! The last few days I have been thinking about what I want to accomplish. I have been thinking about how I can be successful. Then tonight I went over to Steve’s blog, Log My Loss, and it was like Steve knew what I was thinking! He blogged about the SMART theory for setting goals and I had heard of this before but I was not using it!

Someone really needs to slap me in the back of the head!!

Or kick me in the ass!

I am joining in on Steve’s Perfect Ten challenge.  YES, I know I just started to Rethink my Shrink with the Sisterhood of the Shrinking Jeans! It is ok!! I need to set goals for the new year! I have decided that Steve’s challenge gives me the perfect time period to reevaluate my goals! Every 10 weeks I will reevaluate and adjust at that point! I think this sounds reasonable!

I feel rejuvenated and ready to go!!

1. Lose 5 pounds per month update(until I lose 55 pounds to hit goal of 143)

2. Walk 15 miles each week update (that will make 780 miles for the year!)

3. Strength train 3x each week, every week

4. find and prepare one new healthy recipe (update or food) every week ~ and blog about it!

I want to be smart and set goals I know I can attain! I want to set myself up for success! I know that the four goals listed above are all reasonable and I also know that if I accomplish all 4 items I will fell fantastic in 10 weeks!

update: *A side note – my weeks will be from start on Saturdays and end on Fridays. I attend weekly Weight Watchers meetings on Saturdays and it will just be easier for me to track my weeks using this as my first day. I will blog about Perfect 10 on Friday nights and will continue with my usual Saturday Scale Time post.

Let’s enjoy the ride!! and thank Steve and Shrinking Jeans for the awesome & inspiring challenges!

What about you? Did you set goals? Did you keep them SMART?

Rethink Your Shrink!

“Rethink your Shrink”

The sisters of the shrinking jeans have a new challenge to start the year 2010!

and my friends know how I love a good challenge, I can’t say no!

The sisters always host a good challenge but where have I been?

Distracted, procrastinated, lazy, undisciplined, I can’t say no!

I always had the best of intentions, every time I was gonna join in.

I repeat: distracted, procrastinated, lazy, undisciplined, I can’t say no!

The sisters say I should rethink my shrink! So think and rethink I did!

Can I join the sisters? Can I join this challenge? I can’t say no!

On twitter and in the ‘hood, I have been loved, yelled at and accepted!

Will I join this challenge? Will I focus on me? I can’t say no!

Seven weeks I will give it may all! With the sisters, I will stay connected.

Will I give it my all? Will I give myself this gift? I can’t say no!

Sticking with my WW meetings,  Saturdays I will continue to weigh in.

198 is my place to start. I will not be here long! HELL NO!

I will make better food choices and exercise I will fit in!

I will make no excuses! Excuses?!?! HELL NO!

My health, my sanity, my weight loss needs me to begin!

I owe this to myself, to my family! I deserve it!

Can I give myself 60 minutes everday? HELL YEA!!

The sisters have showed me the way-let’s get fit!!

No more excuses! 2010 is our year! HELL YEA!!

Thank you Sisters of the Shrinking Jeans!

Let us all Rethink our Shrink! 2010 here we come!!

I need advice

  • Posted on December 29, 2009 at 12:54 pm

and not of the weight loss variety.

I need computer/blog advice.

I am completely fumbling here and learning as I go.

I started out at blogspot and I loved my little spot in the world.  I moved up in the world and got me a wordpress site of my very own…

maybe I jumped up too quickly but I had help!! My good friend helped me get set up using her server (I apologize in advance if I mess up the verbiage here) but now there seems to a problem. Apparently, her server wants more money for my site. I am using too much something and they want more $$.

Here are some of the DMs from my friend about the problem:

“The server is charging me an extra $50 for overuse of bandwith because of your site. Their rates went up”

“I am not happy with them. The 1st of the year my service is up. I hate this server and am thinking about switching anyway.”

“looking for cheap servers @ timbury.com package will be the best for you.”

I don’t know what to do!! I need simple and straightfoward and easy and cheap!

  • do I switch back to a free blogger or wordpress blog?
  • do I pay $50 and get my own server (whatever that exactly means I am not really sure)
  • or is there another option?
  • or should I just completely start over? new year, new me?!?!

PLEASE hit me up with some comment-style help!!

mindful menu – 12/27/09

  • Posted on December 27, 2009 at 5:30 pm

I hope everyone had a very Merry Christmas! I know I did!! I spent the whole day with my two favorite people in the world!

I love Christmas Day at my house!

Food and family and fun!

Music and laughter!

It does not get much better than this!!

It is Sunday and you know what that means!! Time for a menu plan!!

MindfulMenusButtonThis week we are hitting the road!! We are packing up the truck with supplies and we have reserved a beautiful cabin up in the Poconos. Our cabin and home away from home for a few days is only a short 3-hour drive. We will be staying 10 minutes from Blue Mountain so we may hit the tubing runs one day.  I have been making some meals ahead & freezing so we don’t eat out the whole time we are away! 3 nights and 4 days will be much more enjoyable if we have a plan!!

On the Menu:

Sunday: Out to dinner! First night in Poconos*

Monday: Baked Ziti with Meatballs and a salad of mixed greens and a crusty loaf of bread*

Tuesday: Steaks and twice baked potatoes*

Wednesday: HOME from trip!! We will be ordering pizza and salad!

Thursday: New Year’s Eve: We have been invited to a party!! To get in the mood I am going to make chicken tenders – buffalo wing style with oven fries…and a salad!

Friday: New Year’s Day will be a Prime Rib and King Crab Legs! I LOVE watching Deadliest Catch -it makes me appreciate the few times I splurge for crab legs!! However, I have done the unthinkable – let my daughter taste and fall in love with crab!

The menu plan may have a new name but it is the same great deal…

Menu Planning, are you doing it?

I cannot believe how many benefits there are to menu planning?!?! It has helped my family stay on budget and it has helped to lose weight. I never realized how much we ordered out… I had no idea how often we were scrambling with the “what are we gonna make for dinner?” … I have since learned that the grocery store is not as evil when you really have a plan and a list!

Planning my menu has helped my family in many ways and I owe it all to Jenna (@chivetalker) and her Chive Talkin’ Menu Roll.

What?!?!

You haven’t joined Jenna’s menu roll?

What are you waiting for?

Check IT out and I am sure you will not regret it!!

Saturday Scale Time and sooo much more

  • Posted on December 26, 2009 at 12:57 pm

I warn you and apologize in advance! This post slipped away from me!! I rambled but I needed to tell you some stuff! I needed to get some of the gunk out of my head!

Thank you for reading my blog and being awesome FRIENDS!! Thank you for allowing me to be ME and to learn what the hell it means to be Jen!

Last week: 195.4 {actually this was from 2 weeks ago}

This week: 198

Change this week: +2.6

You may have noticed that Saturday Scale Time did not happen last week! You can thank the wonderful snow storm! I found at today, that I was not the only one who did not make it to WW last week!! In fact, WW canceled the meeting and closed the building!

I must admit that going to my WW meeting was not the first thing on my mind when I climbed out of bed this morning! I had one hell of a belly and head ache!!! I truly think I had a sugar hangover. I love Christmas and part of my traditions include certain foods. We have made somethings healthier but I truly believe in enjoying certain things certain ways and I do not feel guilty about that!

Every year on Christmas we go to my mom’s house for our non-Italian take on the Feast of Seven Fishes! OMG! Calamari and shrimp and crab (jumbo Lump) and Ahi and Alaskan Salmon and Scallops and more crab (Kind Crab Claws)! Last year, we turned it into Seven Fishes Tapas! The appetizers are so yummy and plentiful that we are so full that dinner is almost a waste! This year we only had appetizers and it was perfect!!

Christmas is MY holiday. I do not go crazy with decorations or anything like that! When I was a kid I hated any holiday!! My parents were divorced and the schlepping from one family to the next and all that anxiety in between ruined most of the experience for me. When Q was a baby and I left her sperm donor and came home to my family, the holidays were almost as bad as when I was a kid. I schlepped me and my kid all over the place and I hated it!! When I met Big Man he changed everything about holidays! We were a new family and he helped me make traditions to enjoy the holiday. Our first Christmas together was 6 years ago but our first Christmas living all together was the next year. That Christmas, 5 years ago, changed everything for me! We did not leave our house but invited everyone to “pop” in anytime during the day. I prepared buffet-style, easy picky foods and casseroles so everyone could eat but I didn’t have to spend all day cooking. I have gotten much better at cooking and my meals have evolved but this is how we spend every Christmas now!

I LOVE CHRISTMAS!!

The food has gotten healthier! But the tradition is there!

This year, I made chocolate chip cookies at 9:30pm on Christmas Eve. I know I have a problem with cookies!! ESPECIALLY, fresh from the oven chocolate chip cookies!! I cannot control myself! I had a ton of cookies (enough to gain 2.6 lbs)!! A TON OF cookies I ate yesterday! And they were so yummy!!

And then…

I woke up with a belly ache and a head ache!! I swear I had a chocolate chip hangover!!

But…

I went to my WW meeting anyway! and I gained 2.6 pounds! Phew!! I thought I was gonna gain about 7 pounds.

and this is where I confess…

I have not been tracking and I have not really been working out! I have been a slacker! But, I went to my WW meeting anyway!!

It may sound crazy, but I think those cookies were good for me! I think waking up feeling lousy was good for me!! I know going to my WW meeting was good for me!!

I am feeling very reflective!! I am also feeling very much in need of some change! Earlier I tweeted it out about taking some time away from blogging and I was hit back with the sweetest and most supportive tweets:

  1. PatBarone

  7. Debra debroby

@bwJen NO. Actually perfect time to do so. Many fewer readers/less activity this week than any other all year. about 1 hour ago from web in reply to bwJen

I will be taking a little trip to the Poconos tomorrow! Me, the Big Man and the karate kid will hit the road sometime before noon and it shouldn’t take up longer than 3 hours to get to our cabin.  We will be home Wednesday night! I cannot wait for 3 nights in a cabin in the mountains with my favorite peeps! I need to get away from everything and (with permission from my tweethearts) I am also going to step back from blogging this week. I need time for reflection and refocus and change!

Stay tuned!! I will be back very very soon!! [There will be a Mindful Menu plan posted tomorrow]

  • Posted on December 22, 2009 at 7:41 pm

I really have no idea what the hell is wrong with me. I have been in a mood/funk for a couple of days. I have so much to do and so little time.

And you are thinking the same thing I am thinking…who doesn’t?!? Christmas is in like three days and everyone has last minute “stuff” to do!

I am always finishing up “stuff” last minute! HELLO! I am the queen of procrastination and I know it…

..this feels different.

I feel almost paralyzed and totally clueless what to do first. I am making my lists like usual but I am just feeling lost.

DAMNIT!!!

I have not put enough effort into anything and I getting pissed off at myself.

I need to snap out of this funk! Whatever it is IT has to end!

The weird thing ~ I am totally in the spirit!

just the pics 234I have a new cat, Whiskey, and he is becoming more and more a part of the family…he wasjust the pics 240 even in my lap today.

My family is AWESOME!

I have the coolest Christmas tree.

I am even going away for a few days after Christmas. The family will spend a couple of days in the Poconos in a secluded cabin!

SO, I AM NO OVER IT!!! DO YOU HEAR ME?!?!

Now, I am off to be productive and cross things off my To-Do list!! I needed to yell at myself and remind myself of what is important!

Do you ever feel the need to yell at yourself?

P.S. as I was typing this Big Man put on some music (Steely Dan and The BAND) and brought me a cup of coffee. I have the best husband in the whole world!! I am a lucky girl!! Life is GOOD!

However, I do not usually want to spend too many points on a sweet food.  Weight Watchers helps with a whole line of snack products. I keep them on hand for attack of the munchies or sweet cravings. Sometimes you just have to give in to those cravings.

Weight Watchers has revamped their  “I Really Want” snack widget. I really like the widget. I installed it yesterday and every time I catch myself headed for junk I play the widget game.

Here is what Weight Watchers has to say about their new widget:
Visit the updated widget here: http://www.weightwatchers.com/snackwidget. You may immediately notice its new design, but there’s also:

  • Even more food products that can be part of a healthier lifestyle
  • Delicious monthly Weight Watchers recipe picks, where you can find, download and print recipes
  • Weight Watchers Coupons — sign up to receive info and special offers

Weight Watchers asked if I wanted to run my own last-minute Stocking Stuffer Giveaway.  OF course I said YES!! You get an extra post out of me and a chance to win some cool WW products.

Stocking Stuffer Giveaway

What you will win:

a cute stocking filled with Weight Watchers by Whitman’s chocolate candies

vouchers for our sweet baked goods

and two Weight Watchers cookbooks full of plan friendly, delicious recipes.
